Flagship academy

A flagship academy for Nottinghamshire that is transforming the face of education in the area – the Newark Academy ensures that the both the educational and sporting needs of the local community are met.

From the creation of a modern sports complex to the nine IT learning suites – the facility will encompass a large main school block, a smaller unit that will house the sports hall and other associated buildings that will link the two main structures.

EOS offer a comprehensive range of services and were able to provide extensive onsite support and quality assurance during this project.

The design of windows being significantly outside the line of the structural framing system (SFS), together with the architectural requirement for deep walls to achieve flush internal lines – presented the experienced EOS team with a challenge. However, solutions were quickly developed.

The windows required robust support. EOS was able resolve this issue through the design and supply of continuous cill plates to support the large windows. By providing continuous angle support the team was also able to reduce the thickness and therefore not infringe heavily into the structural opening sizes which reduced the impact onsite tolerances.

To meet the architectural brief to achieve the correct depth for walls for flush internal lines – EOS designed and value engineered a 250mm deep SFS solution which avoided having to use a ‘difficult to install’ twin leaf system.

EOS further aided the project by providing a solution for working around the large areas of cross bracing in the build. By splicing their SFS to fit around it, the potentially problematic bracing could be hidden within the line of the wall, which maintained a sturdy internal finish for the build and maximised the space usage for the sports hall.

EOS also supplied hybrid wind post base plates that ensured that parapets were rigid and robust, with no protrusions of steel onto the roof cladding.
