What is loadbearing light gauge steel framing?

What is loadbearing light gauge steel framing?
Light gauge steel framing is a modern method of construction (MMC) where cold-formed metal profiles are manufactured and assembled offsite to make two dimensional frames and panels for building elements (e.g. walls, floors and ceilings). These elements are then transported to site and fixed together to form the three dimensional loadbearing structure of a building.
It is especially well suited to housing and residential type buildings, and has been very successfully used in education and healthcare projects.
